I was in a hurry, driving on a road that never has a traffic jam. But this morning, a truck was angled to block both lanes for no apparent reason. We were all blowing our horns at the arrogance of the selfish, senseless driver. Then, we saw the reason the truck stopped.

A mother and father duck were escorting 8 ducklings across the road. After they had safely crossed, traffic resumed. But I was embarrassed by my ignorant assumptions.
While I am confessing my ignorant assumptions, how do I know that it was a father and mother duck escorting the ducklings? Afterall, at the Paignton Zoo in Southwest England, two male flamingos named Arthur and Curtis successfully hatched an egg together.
Specialists at the zoo claim the same sex pairing is not that unusual given the shortage of female birds. But they were surprised that Arthur and Curtis hatched an egg. Apparently, the pair discovered an abandoned egg and did something very natural. They became parents.
Humility is the mark of a Christian. But my arrogant assumptions can easily outpace my Christian humility. The assumptions are often wrong. I don't always know why a truck is stopped in the middle of the road. And I don’t always know who will make a good parent.
