Self Reflection...

Last month, there was big news from a small church in Leon, Spain. Historian Margarita Torres Sevilla claims to have discovered the Holy Grail of Christ in the Church’s Basilica of San Isidoro.

Most of us know about the Holy Grail from the Indana Jones movie, “Search for the Holy Grail.” But in some parts of the Christian community, the Holy Grail is an important religious relic. It is the cup that Jesus used at his Last Supper. “This is my blood which is shed for you.”
Only, there is not just one Holy Grail. Over the centuries, more than 200 cups have been discovered and offered as the one that Christ used. Obviously, at least 199 are counterfeit.
Religious relics have been around a long time and so have their fabrications and exaggerations. One skeptic suggested that if all the supposed pieces of the Cross of Jesus were assembled there would be enough wood to build a house!
But relics are a distraction. At the Last Supper of Jesus the focus was never on the cup. The focus was on the cup’s contents, the symbol of Christ’s blood poured out for our sins.
We will never prove there was a Last Supper by an old cup from a dusty church. Just look in the mirror. Examine your own life. When I truly see myself, I see a sinner who needs a savior.
