Separation Anxiety

I love the Bible.  Reading and understanding the Bible is all I have been trained to do.  The rest of my work, I fly by the seat of my pants.  I believe the Bible is authoritative and instructional for our lives.  I carry the Bible in my hand and hold it in my heart.  I am a Bible believing Christian.

I am also a flag waving American who believes that the United States of America is the greatest nation on earth.  I also believe that this amazing nation is at risk of losing its unique identity.

But the risk is not from migrants crossing the border.  Not from unbelievers who do not value the Bible.  Not from Muslims who hold another book to be holy.  Ironically, our greatest threat is from those who claim to love both the Bible and the flag.

Oklahoma and Louisiana have passed legislation that requires public educators to teach the Bible or post the 10 Commandments in schools.  Texas is considering similar legislation.

Can we love both the Bible and the flag?  Yes!  Can we hold the Bible and the flag at the same time?  Yes, just not in the same hand.  In other words, don’t mix them!

Our founders rebelled against all powerful tyrants and fled countries where freedom of religion did not exist.  Yet, some of my brothers and sisters would gladly return to a system where our religion is the only religion.  And one mandated by a tyrant who knows no way but his way.

The First Amendment provides:  “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”  How could we ever forget that?
