The Great Divide

Like most ministers these days, I stand before a divided congregation.  There are Republicans and Democrats, conservatives and moderates.  And a lot of people in between.

Ministers try to be a pastor to both groups.  But it is not easy if one demonizes the other.  You know the line.  “I do not see how anyone could be a Christian and vote for (insert name).”

We need a middle ground.  We need something positive.  Something we all can celebrate.

Whoever is elected president, this next election will be a milestone.  We will have either elected the first 78 year old president or the first woman president.  Yes, some will say, “He is too old to serve.”  Others will say, "The woman is out of her place.”  You cannot please everyone.

But I remember that the prophet Joel wrote, “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,  Your old men shall dream dreams,  Your young men shall see visions;”

Old men dreaming and daughters preaching.  No one is disqualified!  The first woman president or the oldest elected president.  Either way, it will be a record.  And we shall still be America!
